FAQs

Q: What is cremation?

A: Cremation is a process in which through heat and evaporation the body is reduced to its basic elements. Once the body turns to ash and bone fragments, it is then processed into a powdery substance which is called cremated remains (pet cremains).

Q: Where can I have my pet cremated?

A: Veterinarian clinics can set up cremation for your pet. Find out the contact information for local funeral homes, pet cemeteries and crematories.

Q: If I have my pet cremated, how do I know I will get my pet's ashes back?

A: Ask your Veterinarian to guide you to a reputable pet cremation services facility. Request a "private cremation" which indicates you want only your pet's cremains.

Q: How do I transfer my pet's ashes to my new urn?

A: The pet cremains will be sealed in a tied plastic bag that is placed into a short-term container. Transport the bagged ashes into the urn. Cremains are bagged to prevent an accidental loss should the pet urn be dropped or damaged.

Q: Must I mail you the cremains?

A: No, do not mail your pet's cremains to us. You must put the cremains into the urn yourself or ask your veterinarian for assistance. Also, you can mail the urn to your crematory or veterinarian and let them install your pet's ashes. During the checkout process, you will have the opportunity to provide a "Ship To" address. Just put your cremation facility's information.

Q: How are the Pet Urns shipped?

A: Once an order is received, we try to ship that same day. If you order a nameplate it will delay your order by 24-48 hours. If your order falls on a weekend or holiday shipping may be delayed due to UPS.

Q: What size urns do you offer and what size should I purchase?

A: A good rule of thumb in the funeral industry is to allow 1 cubic inch of urn space for every pound of body weight. Please keep in mind what your pet weighed under normal, healthy conditions. Often when they are extremely ill or elderly, they lose weight; however, when choosing an urn, it would be best to choose one which would fit your pet at his/her healthy weight. When the size of the urn is close to the weight of the pet, you may consider moving up a size. We provide capacity guidelines based on the live healthy weight of your pet.

Q: What should I put on the nameplate?

A: This simple keepsake is for your use. Many of our plates have the Pet's name or the Pet’s name and the "life" dates. Still, others have the Pet's name, and a 1-2 line saying on the plate.
